Taneli Rautiainen (born 1983) is interested in light and sound as the materials of spatial works. On display in PROJECT is an artwork in which an encircling sound creates a ring to enclose the viewer. The black room absorbs light and instead sight the viewer must rely on other means of perception to obtain an experience of the work and to create contours for it.

Not only one of the main materials of the work, darkness is also a concept that fascinates Taneli Rautiainen. It adds to ambivalence and creates uncertainty. The dark arouses fear in most of us. This artwork operates in the interstices conscious perception and the loss of control.

Taneli Rautiainen has studied at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. He has held his most recent solo exhibitions at the Kluuvi Gallery (2012) and the Amos Anderson Art Museum (2011). A joint project by Anssi Pulkkinen and Taneli Rautiainen recently won the competition for a public artwork for the Porvoo Art Factory area. The work will be completed in the spring of 2013. Works by Taneli Rautiainen will be featured in the Mänttä Art Festival in 2013.

The PROJECT series is curated by Piia Oksanen.
